Sunday Dinner

Image Found at Too Many Starbucks

The Lord told Noah to brew him some coffee coffee.

Hopefully, the coffee brewed was not Starbucks but was Kaladi Coffee.  Kalidi Coffee introduced me to the passion of roasters. Mark and Andy both dreamed of making the perfect bean.  The bean they created, is one of perfection.  The coffee is strong, but surprisingly smooth; smells of perfected acidity, and guaranteed to make a calm day jump.   I am thankful for the folks at Kaladi Coffee for invigorating my days.   I miss them here in Central Florida, and wish the days were dry and not so wet.  I look forward to visiting Colorado and tasting the succulent drips of Kaladi Coffee.

El Camino- Borderland States

{Headed North Bound}

MARCH 16, 5:00 A.m, 1988: (Daniel IS 27)

I keep an eye on the oncoming tracks; everything is blanketed by a white-grey sheet of snow.   January’s snow had not yet melted, and in parts there is a snow wall, on the side of the tracks, about six feet high.  Looking at my Thermowatch, I see that the temperature outside is thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit.  (41:365)

Colorado: Fante a Reader

Colorado Reading: John Fante Reader

from Wikipedia:

Fante's clear voice, vivid characters, shoot-from-the-hip style, and painful, emotional honesty blended with humor and scrupulous self-criticism lends his books to wide appreciation. Most of his novels and stories take place either in Colorado or California. Many of his novels and short stories also feature or focus on fictional incarnations of Fante's father, Nick Fante, as a cantankerous wine tippling, cigar stub-smoking bricklayer.

In the late 1970s, at the suggestion of novelist and poet Charles Bukowski,[2] Black Sparrow Press began to republish the (then out-of-print) works of Fante, creating a resurgence in his popularity. When Black Sparrow was reconfigured on its founder's retirement in 2002, publication of John Fante's works was taken over by HarperCollins under the Ecco imprint, but not before Black Sparrow Press could publish the last of Fante's uncollected stories in The Big Hunger (2000). Full of Life: The Biography of John Fante was published by Stephen Cooper also in 2000, followed by The Fante Reader in 2003. Also available are two collections of letters, Fante/Mencken: A Personal Correspondence (1989) and Selected Letters (1991).

Alexander Rothbard: The Sale Part Two

(Continued from July 3rd 2010) I reached into my bag and brought out five cartons of Philip Morris and 500 Flat 50's.  I started my presentation and the dealer interrupted with, "What else do you want to sell?"  He bought my entire stock, built the display himself,  asked for two posters and went outside and put them up with paste, a perfect angle shot.  That did it.  It was the most difficult job in my life to hold back the tears.  I thanked the dealer and went out.   It was a little after 2:00 p.m. and my bag was empty.  However, the sale did not cheer me because he had bought,  I did not sell.  After five minutes of thinking "Why" ,  I returned and asked the dealer why he bought. the Philip Morris from me.  He stated that he had watched me through this window while I was making up my mind to come i, said I looked real "beat" and in need of a lift, so when I came in and put those cigarettes on the counter and started to talk, he could not help but try to cheer me.  I then noted that he took the flat 50's and opened them up--again.  "Why?".  "For the one cent sales"  was the answer--a new one on me.

That sale did the trick.  I bought five cartons of Philip Morris back from the dealer and a carton of Flat 50's, with the provision that if I did not sell them he would buy them from me--again. From 2:30-6:30 p.m.  I not only sold the cigarettes but also sold, displayed and merchandised 5 additional cigarettes from this same dealer since there was no jobber in the area, and he called a jobber and ordered 10 Philip Morris for delivery to him the next morning.  A most unforgettable sale.

Zombies Attack Charlies in Denver

And they attacked Denver arising out of the dusty earth. They came into Charlies bringing their bloodied teeth to a gun fight, they laughed a laugh so mean and cruel it felt like a Zephyr blowing hard against the prairie mounded earth collected at Rocky Flats. The Cold wind was a chill I never forget.

When in Denver!

Stop at the buck horn exchange, and see the 500 animal trophies. You will feel that you are in the wild, wild, west; (Theodore Roosevelt, Sitting Bull, and Buffalo Bill Cody ate here). It was the first bar and steak house in Denver; established in 1893. Restaurant
