History of the Word Cannibal


The word cannibal comes from Columbus.  Columbus thinking he was in or near China thought the inhabitants of Cuba were the descendants of Genghis Kahn. The inhabitants of Cuba and Haiti called themselves, canniba or carib meaning strong men.   He believed these people to be eaters of men.
